Anti-Discrimination Law Submissions (Northern Territory)

Anti-discrimination laws in the Northern Territory (2022)

The Exposure Anti-Discrimination Bill 2022 (NT) amends anti-discrimination laws in the nothern territory, seeking to strengthen legal protections for sex workers. Our submission called for the inclusive protected attribute ‘occupation’ to be inserted so that strippers and porn performers (who are legally not classified as sex workers) are also protected by the law. We also recommended clarifying how the law is to be interpreted, to avoid overly narrow interpretations of the law by tribunals and courts.
